♥ FAQ's ♥
* Is Casa Meranka suitable for families with small children?
Casa Meranka is very suitable for families of all ages but parents must be aware that the space is shared by all the cottages and we try to maintain a calm and peaceful environment. Although we try to provide a child friendly garden and cottages, parents must not leave small children unattended.
* Is Casa Meranka open all year round?
We are open all year round but please wait for confirmation that the dates you have requested are available before booking your flights.
* When is the best time of year to come for surfing?
For beginner surfers the best time to come is from May to October when the waves are smaller and the water is warmer. For more advanced level surfers you can find good waves here all year round but from October to May the swells are more consistent and bigger.
* Is the surf also suitable for beginners?
The surf here is great for beginners. We have so many beaches to choose from to find the correct conditions for your level of surfing. Also in the summer months most of the popular beaches are life guarded.
*Can we find nice restaurants close by?
We have a very popular, simple, Portugese restaurant just 100 metres from Casa Meranka and within a 5 - 10 minute drive you can find everything from, vegan to steakhouses to beach seafood restaurants and pizzerias.
* Is it necessary to rent a car or can we use public transport?
We advise to rent a car if you are really wanting to explore different beaches in the area and have the freedom to move around as and when you feel. Alternatively some people do choose to take it very easy and use the local shop in the village for supplies and walk to the nearby beaches. We also have a good bus service that runs directly through the village that connects all the way from Faro along the coast to Sagres. You can also take a bus or train service to and from Lisbon to Lagos for around €35 which takes about 4 hours.
* How far is the nearest beach?
Our nearest beach is about a 10 - 15 minute walk from us and is an absolute must for anyone staying here. Truly stunning!
* How far is the nearest supermarket?
The nearest supermarket is Intermache, just two minutes drive out of the village on the main road. We also have a Lidl supermarket in the nearby village of Villa do Bispo, which is about 10 minutes drive from us and is more basic but a lot cheaper.
For local, fresh fruit, vegetables, fish, meat and bread you can visit the daily market in the nearby village of Villa do Bispo. Hear is also an organic fruit and veg stand from a local farm. The market is only closed on sundays and no fish on a monday.
We also have two small local shops just a short walk through our village who have a basic selection of everything you may need.
COMING SOON: Casa Meranka's home grown vegetables!!
* Do you have wifi?
We do have wifi but it is not available in all of the areas of the cottages as the buildings are so old and the walls so thick that it is not possible to spread the signal effectively.
*Can I rent surf equipment?
We have 3 beginner soft boards for rent at a cost of €15 per day. Our local surf shop in Villa do Bispo rents a wider selection of advanced level surfboards and wetsuits. For more specific info please speak with us on arrival.
*Do you have a lifeguard for your pool?
No we do not have a lifeguard for our pool but, Josh can often be seen patrolling the pool area in a small pair of red shorts.
