Markets

We have many local markets in the area selling fantastic, fresh fruit, veg, meat and fish and other specialities.

Vila do bispo market

Our favourite is the daily veggie, fruit & fish market down the road at Vila do Bispo. Where you can also find Portuguese local stands, our friend, Tina selling her delicious selection of biological fruit, veg and other products and a friendly Portugese couple, Ofelia & Cato, that sell their organic fruit and veggies that are homegrown in our village Figueira! On this market you will find a selection of fresh local fish as well. (Sunday closed and on Monday no fish because the fishermen have their day off on Sunday:) Vila do Bospo daily Market is from 09:00-12:00

Lagos market

In Lagos (close to the station) you have every Saturday morning ( 8am-2pm) the Lagos farmers market is an enjoyable, memorable, down to earth shopping experience. Every Saturday the local Farmers come out early and fill the shed beside the bus station with their fabulous goods. From live chickens, to olives, to fruits, to hot chilli chains, to eggs, to homemade sweets and jams, to flowers freshly picked by old women in the fields. You can find everything here and its all fresh, local, cheap and served to you with a smile of a sweet Portuguese farmer.

For a great selection of local fresh fish you should visit the market, Mercado Municipalat in Lagos oppersite the marina. In the great inside hall you have many stands to choose and if you really want the biggest variety of fish come early morning around 6-7 am. The market is from mon-sat 7 am- 2 pm.

You can also find different second hand markets in the various villages around. From a creative interesting hippy-market in Barão de São João every 4th Sunday of the month to the general flea-markets or jypsy markets.
